Diversified Combat Systems
E.S.C.O.R.T. Program
Effective Secure Custody Options and Restraint Techniques, is a use of force program designed to respect the use of force syllabus of various security and law enforcement agencies, specific to their individual requirements.
Designed by Sifu/Guro White, E.S.C.O.R.T. was created using guidelines from similar Canadian, U.S., and U.K. models as templates so that E.S.C.O.R.T. encourages adherence to the use of force continuum at every level of implementation.
Unarmed, weapon to weapon, and empty hand to weapon techniques employed, are derived from numerous source arts, i.e. Muay Thai, Jun Fan Gung Fu, Jeet Kune Do Concepts, Filipino martial arts, and mixed grappling systems.
The use of easily learned techniques with low risk potential for both officer and subject injury, allows participants to focus on low level subject control, with optional escalation of force along the continuum, when lower level controls fail to elicit the desired compliance. In subjects who escalate levels of aggression in response to low level applications, use of force may be adjusted incrementally until compliance is met.
Course material will focus on the following response options.
- Presence/approach
- Tactical communication skills
- Control skills, takedown’s, pain compliance, submission locking.
- Empty hand vs. baton (disarms & weapon recovery)
- Baton vs. baton (partner assisted weapon recovery)
- Baton vs. edged weapon
- Empty hand vs. edged weapon.
- Cell and vehicle extraction.
In order to maximize potential for muscle memory retention, repetition of body mechanics with and without the baton will be taught as overlapping fields of related material, leading to reference points for prone takedown’s and ultimately handcuffing.
Weapon to weapon category material, will emphasize the use of gross motor skills and natural body mechanics, to ensure successful recollection and application of the skills taught, under stress. This design feature has been implemented to offset the adverse effects of adrenaline surges that accompany high stress encounters; i.e. depth perception distortion, diminished fine motor skills, reduction in peripheral vision field, et al.
Follow up maintenance sessions will focus on the same basic material, (for reinforcement) using impact weapons, (padded batons/ daggers) and eye protection to artificially create situational simulations, in which participants field test their newly acquired skills. These maintenance sessions will introduce variables such as loud abusive language, verbal threats, environmental obstacles, and other surprise tactics and unknown factors i.e. (feints/timing) into the equation to assess, regulate, and adjust trainee performance.
The philosophy behind this training is to desensitize trainees to extraneous stimuli designed to psychologically intimidate and interfere with job performance. Training in this fashion promotes familiarity with, and functional adaptability to unpredictable encounters, and effectively lowers the adverse effects of the stresses that accompany more violent engagements.
Later stages of training will focus on weapon retention skills, field of fire considerations for baton deployment, and multiple attacker engagement tactics.
Ongoing assessment and modification will be a hallmark feature of the training progression.
Difficult situations encountered by trainees in their day to day routine should be reported and recorded for future use, and will be assessed, analyzed, reenacted, and used to implement program modification. Modifications made to the curriculum, must demonstrate practical effectiveness in subsequent encounters to verify program improvement, successful response development, and subject compliance.
